Just Verdict ?? Where

Just today i happened to read the news that the verdict was delivered in the "Jessica Lal" case where the *suspect* got let off due to insufficient evidence and witnesses turning hostile.
Was the Verdict Just ??

This case has been on and off the news for the past 6 years or so and there have been some prominent socialites, Politicians and their sons involved in it as well. From the articles i have read, there doesnt seem to be an iota of doubt in the fact that the *suspect* was the Murderer, but somehow the judiciary would best allow the case to be dragged for a long period - thus providing ample scope for the witnesses to turn hostile and evidence to disappear.

What does it say to the common man out there ?
If you are strong and foolish enough to go out in the world and commit a heinous crime as taking someone's life and have enough Money and Political Clout, you can not only get away with it but as in the instances of some movie stars, repeat the mistake again.
The Common rightful man out there also gets the depressing thought that the laws are not just fair and are different for different strata of society.

But then, I guess in this world of manipulated verdict's we would have to seek solace in what my mum says - somewhere out there GOD watches everyone and keeps a track of the gud and the bad and accounts for it.

I pray and hope he keeps his verdict JUST.

When i read my blogs from last week, its hard to miss the irony.

The Irony about Rang De Basanti ( A bunch of Youths from Delhi who were trying to awaken the nation and invoke a sense of nationality and civic responsibility - Putting Country/Others above self ) versus the events of Jessica Lall case ( again a bunch of youths from Delhi who try to douse out the very fire that the earlier bunch were so admirably trying to rouse - Putting Self above others ).

Two Sides of the same Coin.

Maybe its time we wake up and dont let such things happen again. Some Proactive action here could help bring out justice in Manjunath Shanmugham's case - http://gauravsabnis.blogspot.com/2006/02/manjunath-shanmugam-trust.html
